Disney Infinity is an video game developed by Avalanche Software and published by Disney Interactive Studios, that was released on August 18, 2013. Video game uses collect figurines that are then virtualized within game allow for characters from Walt Disney Company and Pixar properties to interact and go on adventures, aspect originally from Skylanders Series.
At launch, 3 worlds were available Incredibles, Pirates Of Caribbean and Monsters University. Other incorporated elements include Cars, Toy Story, Wreck It Ralph (2012), Phineas And Ferb, Nightmare Before Christmas, Aladdin (1992), Ducktales, Tron Series, Up, Tangled, Frankenweenie, Lone Ranger, Frozen, Muppets, Disney Parks, and more. Game was released for Wii, Xbox 360, Wii U, Play Station 3, and Nintendo 3DS in 2013. PC version was also released on November 14, 2013. Portable Toy Box was also released exclusively for IPad, along with another app for mobile devices call Disney Infinity Action where you can edit characters into your own personal videos.
Game has play place their Disney Infinity figures onto circular spots of Disney Infinity base to jump into game and come alive in fully animated interactive world. With exception of biped characters such as those from Cars, each character has double jump and default set of attacks, as well as ability unique to each figure.
For example, James P Sullivan can roar to scare others whilst Violet Parr and Randall Boggs can turn invisible. There are 2 main modes in game Play Set and Toy Box.
Play Set mode[]
Play Set mode has Disney Infinity play sets of films which are accessed via placing relevant play set piece onto hexagonal spot of Infinity Base. This includes Pirates Of Caribbean, Monsters University, Incredibles, Cars, Lone Ranger, and Toy Story. These playsets have their own unique campaign, which can be play with up to 2 play locally. Play takes control of characters, and play as them in original adventures in different worlds. In these worlds, play battles enemies, solves puzzles, overcomes obstacles and completes a variety of other unique quests. Each play set is essentially a self contained world, based on specific movie and series with recognizable characters, gameplay and storylines. Characters from 1 world cannot enter into another world, mean 2 figures from same series are required to play play set in split screen multiplayer. Play through play sets unlock objects and vehicles that can be used in Toy Box Mode.
Toy Box mode[]
Toy Box mode allow play to create their own world and stories, similar to Toy Box mode in Toy Story 3 Video Game. It also allow play to mix and match everything that is unlock within play sets including characters, weapons and gadgets. There are various adventures in this mode, which help teach play how to use mode tools. Play can also earn spins, which can be use to unlock additional items in Toy Box, by play through play set as well as adventures for 1 time, or level up their characters. Mode supports online multiplayer, in which play can play around with items that only other play has, albeit only during that session.
Portable Toy Box became available in 2013, exclusively for IPad. Version of Toy Box is also available for Microsoft Windows. These versions of Toy Box web code included with each Disney Infinity character.
Physical elements[]
Starter Pack of game is bundled with 3 figurines James P Sullivan, Jack Sparrow, and Mr Incredible, play set piece for Monsters University, Pirates Of Caribbean, and Incredibles, and Infinity Base. Infinity Base has 2 round spots to place figurines, and hexagonal spot to place play set pieces. When figurines are placed on Infinity Base, characters are imported into game, while play set pieces unlock Play Sets.
Power Discs are discs that can be placed on Infinity Base along with their characters to add new elements to game. Play can use up to 3 enhancements Hexagonal Power Discs that can only be use in toy box mode, and up to 2 character enhancements Power Discs character. Enhancements can alter terrain, change background sky, add new vehicles or add new weapons. Character enhancements will alter things about character such as damage done, replenish health, allow for fast experience gain for leveling and so on. 1 Power Disc is included with Starter Pack whilst additional discs are sold in blind bags each containing 2 discs.
Alternate versions[]
PC version of Disney Infinity was released on November 14, 2013. This version is available free of charge, and can be download from official Disney Infinity website. This version originally contained only game Toy Box mode, similar to IPad version. However, patch was released on February 28, 2014 that add in all 6 Play Sets, putting it on par with console versions. Game features several changes from console version, however. Game does not support Infinity Base. Instead, characters are unlock either by purchasing them from Disney Infinity website at discounted rate, due to lack of physical figurine or by redeeming web code card included with physical figurines. Since Power Discs do not come with web codes, they must be purchased from PC Shop. Game also does not support multiplayer, though play can link up with console version to share Toy Boxes between 2 versions.
Due to space limitations of Wii platform, some design decisions had to be made in game. Gameplay does not have online play or multiplayer in Play Sets, but there is multiplayer in Toy Box. That means smaller playset worlds, no download or shareable toy box worlds. Toy Box version has only 6 different Toy Box Worlds, each with different toys and tools. On August 21, 2014, Disney Infinity software was released as free download for North American Wii U eShop, for convenience of upgrading to superior Wii U version for play who originally own Wii Starter Pack, although Wii version is backward compatible on Wii U. Follow Up Game is not available for Wii.
Different from console and PC versions, Nintendo 3DS version of game is party game, in which up to 4 play play on various themed game boards and participate in various mini games. Toy Box mode can be use to create new game boards. This version uses it own Infinity Base, which has only 1 character slot compared to console version, and connects to 3DS wirelessly.

Reception[]
Disney Infinity received mostly positive reviews from critics except for 3DS version, which received negative reviews. It received 100% and 100 out of 100 on review aggregrator site Metacritic, for Play Station 3 and Xbox 360 respectively.
Sandbox mode, name Toy Box mode, received much praise. Steven O Donnell of Good Game Spawn Point stated that it bit like Minecraft in that you drop into open world that you can then build some pretty spectacular structures in. Kevin Vanord of Gamespot call Toy Box gleefully entertaining shared space, and greatly preferred it over story mode.
Figurines of play characters received mixed to positive reactions. Daniel Krupa of IGN said that they well made statues, and that each 1 really captures personality of that character with charismatic stance. Soundtrack and dialogue of Disney Infinity also received mixed reactions. Andrew Reiner of Game Informer said that characters repeat dialogue way too often, and that soundtrack is often surprisingly absent. Andy Robertson of Forbes stated that his children love play figurines, both in game and as toys.
Overall price of game and all of toys received media coverage. Jeff Cork of Game Informer said that to purchase all items at launch game, all launch toys and power discs it costs minimum of AUD $460. Kevin Vanord of Gamespot call Disney Infinity a platform design to keep you spend money. Nick Cowen of Guardian warn parents to get ready with those wallets.
In 2013, Disney revealed that game had sold 294,000 copies in US during it 1 2 weeks on sale.
On October 18, 2013, Disney Interactive announced that game had sold more than million copies worldwide. With more figures not yet released, Disney hopes number of units sold will continue to grow. As of January 20, 2014, 3 million starter packs have been sold.
Game was nominated for Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in 2014, but lost to Just Dance 2014.
