My Life as a Teenage Rabbot is an American animated television series created by Craig McCracken and Rob Renzetti for Cartoon Network. The name of the show is a nod and a reference to My Life as a Teenage Robot, an animated series created by Renzetti for Nickelodeon. It stars the voices of Lara Jill Miller, Kristen Schaal, Niki Yang, Olivia Colman, E. G. Daily, Nancy Cartwright, Zooey Deschanel, Lena Headey, and Michelle Gomez.
Set in the fictional city of Mapleville Ridge in the American state of Wisconsin, the series follows Gwendolyn Sherwood, a rabbot[b] at 18 years of age who works as a pizza delivery woman at El Groucho's Pizzeria, while she still tries to live her ordinary life as a teenager. Alongside her is her adoptive human sister Penelope Atchison, an 11-year-old child prodigy who is the smartest in the Wilberson house, with Kate Anderson as her accomplice. My Life as a Teenage Rabbot was commissioned to Cartoon Network in 2003 by Craig McCracken and Rob Renzetti, before it was fully green lit. Originally, it was commissioned for six seasons, but would prove to be successful later on.
Starting with the short episode "The Hero of Mapleville" on August 11, 2004, and eight other pilots between 2004 and 2005, the full series aired on October 2, 2006 with the full version of "The Hero of Mapleville". The series received widespread acclaim from critics, with praise for the animation, visuals, voice performances, and Gwendolyn Sherwood's character portrayal, with many hailing it as one of the greatest animated shows of all time. In later years, it continues to receive monumental praise, with later seasons of the show receiving praise for its representation of the LGBTQ+ community. The episode "Hard Times For Ami" is among the series' most popular episode, with it going into detail of Ami's backstory. As of May 22, 2025, the series has produced 18 seasons and 612 episodes.
The success of My Life as a Teenage Rabbot has spawned a multimedia franchise, which included a spin-off series, two films, merchandising, and brand deals, among many others. The series has left a significant impact on the animation community for its diversity and its unique blending of styles.
Premise[]
My Life as a Teenage Rabbot is set in the fictional city of Mapleville Ridge, which is located in the heart of the American Midwest, directly in the middle of Wisconsin. In the city lives Gwendolyn Sherwood (voiced by Lara Jill Miller), a rabbot who is 18 years old, and is the ninth installment in the Wilberson Series Units — a series of rabbot units designed and manufactured by renowned British scientist and engineer Katherine Milton. She runs the Wilberson Systems Company, which is based in Mapleville Ridge, though she originally found the company in her birth city, London.
Gwendolyn's daily life consists of serving as a pizza delivery woman for El Groucho's Pizzeria, the most popular pizza parlor in Mapleville Ridge (and the most popular pizza parlor in all of Wisconsin), while she also is tasked with keeping her city safe from potential threats. One such enemy of hers is Stephanie Faulkner (voiced by Michelle Gomez), a woman in her 50s whose origins are from rural Perth in Scotland. She loves to terrorize the Wilberson family, let alone everyone who is of the population of Mapleville Ridge. In the show's movie, Faulkner teams up with Christopher Scott, an escaped convict, to lay her plot of world domination, which Gwendolyn manages to stop by the end.
In the Wilberson house, which is directly across from the Bunny Burrow at 300 feet (600 meters) away, resides Penelope Atchison (voiced by Kristen Schaal), an 11-year-old ginger-haired girl who is known to be the child prodigy of the household. With an I.Q. of 499, she is known in her school for being smarter than the likes of Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking, and Isaac Newton. Despite her unbelievably high I.Q. and her smartness, however, she is known to get in the way of things, causing her to get in trouble. Also in the Wilberson house is Penelope's older sister Ami Morrison (voiced by E. G. Daily), an anthropomorphic 13-year-old kitsune fox who had a very rough childhood prior to getting adopted by Katherine, which was later explained in the episode "Hard Times For Ami".
Below Penelope's age range is Zooey Fitzpatrick, a 10-year-old Holland lop rabbit who was diagnosed with autism, a neurodevelopmental disorder, at the age of 3. Amelia Wilberson is the youngest of the sisters at 8 years old. She is a pink hedgehog whose appearance is directly influenced from the design of Classic Amy Rose from the video game Sonic CD. With Gwendolyn, Ami, Zooey and Amelia being only four of her primary adoptive sisters, Penelope has plenty more in the rabbot fleet.[c] Kate Anderson is Penelope's smartwatch companion, who was originally a human before she died to stage IV bone marrow cancer. Her voice was preserved by Katherine, and was put into a smartwatch's AI assistant program. She was later reformatted to work in an old Wilberson Series shell.
Characters[]
- Gwendolyn Sherwood, WS-9 (voiced by Lara Jill Miller) — an 18-year-old rabbot[b] and the protagonist of the series. Sometimes known under her alias "Dimitri", she works daily as a pizza delivery woman for Mapleville Ridge's most popular pizza parlor; El Groucho's.
- Penelope Atchison (voiced by Kristen Schaal) — an 11-year-old girl with ginger-colored hair and braces, and is the deuteragonist of the series. Known for her insanely high I.Q., she is known as the child prodigy.
- Kate Anderson (voiced by Niki Yang) — Penelope's smartwatch companion. Prior to becoming a smartwatch assistant, Kate lived a normal life until she was diagnosed with stage IV bone marrow cancer. She fought the disease for the best part of a few months, before her untimely passing at the age of 9. Her voice was restored by Katherine Milton, thus bringing her back to life.
- Katherine Milton (voiced by Olivia Colman) — the adoptive mother of Penelope and her other sisters. She was born and raised in Greater Manchester, but moved to the United States with her mother Gretchen when she was in her mid to late-20s. She is the developer of Gwendolyn Sherwood and the Wilberson System Series, and is the adoptive mother of Penelope and her other sisters.
- Ami Morrison (voiced by E. G. Daily) — Penelope's 13-year-old sister.[d] She is a kitsune fox who was adopted by Katherine when she was 11. As told in the episode "Hard Times For Ami", Ami revealed that she was raped and abused both physically and emotionally by her own foster father, Rodney, but she never opened up about it, even after she was adopted by Katherine. But when she lost all composure, she ended up murdering both Rodney and Miley in cold blood. In an attempt to cope with the depression from being raped and abused, she developed an eating addiction to eat away at it, before she was at the brink of ending at all, going as far as to stab herself three times in the chest and stomach.
- Zooey Fitzpatrick (voiced by Nancy Cartwright) — Penelope's second-youngest adoptive sister. She is a Holland lop rabbit who was diagnosed with autism, a neurodevelopmental disorder, at the age of three and a half years old. She is usually happy and cheerful, but her feelings are fragile, which causes her to feel sad when she's feeling hurt.
- Amelia Wilberson (voiced by Zooey Deschanel) — Penelope's youngest adoptive sister. She is a pink hedgehog with supersonic speed, whose appearance is directly based on the classic design for Amy Rose in Sonic CD. She is occasionally very hyperactive.
- Gretchen Milton (voiced by Lena Headey) — Katherine Milton's mother and the siblings' aunt. She was born and raised in Greater Manchester, before she moved to the United States when Katherine was in her mid to late-20s, where she has resided ever since.
- Stephanie Faulkner (voiced by Michelle Gomez) — the antagonist of the series. She has an ungodly large hatred for Gwendolyn Sherwood, and loves to terrorize the Wilberson family when she has the opportunity to do so.
- Mandy Maynard, WS-1 (voiced by Cathy Cavadini) — the first prototype and beginning point of the WS Series, a group of machines that Katherine Milton the Rabbit developed, created, and manufactured. Due to the fact that she was the first WS Series robot prototype, even though she occasionally acts like a very joyful and upbeat girl toward her sisters, even she occasionally makes mistakes and blows up. Despite these shortcomings, she also serves as the commander and leader of the “Rabbot Brigade”, a Girl Scout-like group that she founded.
- Tara Strong (later Grey DeLisle[e]) as Maxine Atwood, WS-2 — the second WS series prototype. Consistent with the other rabbots and her flesh-based sisters, Maxine is different from everyone else. She is a big snitch who spreads information about her elder siblings and the other WS Units in the Bunny Burrow. She has been referred to as “Max the Snitcher-bot” at the Bunny Burrow as an inside joke aimed at the younger rabbots.
- Janice Kawaye as Kamiko Yokoyama, WS-3 — the third WS Series prototype. She is the third WS Series prototype and is native to Japan, where she speaks only Japanese. Kamiko utilizes an English OS disk to communicate with her siblings and mother in English despite being born and nurtured only in Japan by her parents and ancestors who date back five centuries.
- Kawaye provides the voice for both the English translated and original Japanese versions of Kamiko, as she is of Asian descent.
- Ami Foster as Addison Schneider, WS-4 — the fourth WS Series prototype. When she is with unfamiliar people, she is the awkward but occasionally excessively bashful sister in the Rabbot Brigade. She does, however, occasionally appear to cause difficulty for herself with her siblings owing to her tendency to play practical jokes and be mischievous.
- Kate Burton as Samantha Hopkinson, WS-5 — the fifth WS Series prototype. Not only is she a pretty rational young girl, but she is also a naturalist at heart, to say nothing of a highly bright young child.
- Gillian Anderson as Allison Vineyard, WS-6 — the sixth WS series prototype. She is outgoing and passionate with her other sisters, but she can also be a little sarcastic when it comes to her.
- Emily Bauer as Kaitelynne Dougherty, WS-7 — the seventh WS series prototype. She and the other rabbots didn't have any programming or anything else connected to them at all, so they couldn't be connected to anything.
- Natalie Palamides as Isabella Callahan, WS-8 — the eigth WS prototype. She occasionally behaves like Isabella Shapiro from Phineas & Ferb since she is the eighth and almost final prototype. Isabella used to frequently ask “What are you doing?” while at home and at the Bunny Burrow, even at Katherine's lab when Isabella is scheduled for a checkup every month.
- Nicole Byer as Andrea Hatfield, WS-10 — the tenth and final WS Series prototype. While the other rabbots and siblings in the Bunny Burrow refer to her more commonly as “Andi” because of this because since in the WS Series of robots, Andrea is the tenth and last prototype. She was planned to be the ninth and last WS Series prototype, taking Gwendolyn's position as the “hero of Earth” and sparing her from having to perform all the arduous, challenging job.
