The Three is an American animated sitcom created by Erick Morberger and Jon Clements, the series revolves around three friends and their absurd misadventures around the fictional city of Whereville; New York, the series first premiered on February 11, 2000 on The WB, the show was cancelled after 9 episodes due to low ratings, however, Adult Swim later picked it up for 13 episodes in 2002, it later premiered on Adult Swim on October 6, 2002, and after regaining a cult following and good ratings, Adult Swim renewed the show for 2 more seasons, but then finally, in 2004, Adult Swim later cancelled the series.
The show is the brainchild of Morberger and Clements, the idea first came in 1998 during the success of South Park, when Clements met animator Morberger at a comedy club, they had the idea of three 20-something friends going on absurd and satirical misadventures while also working at a Blockbuster-esque store called Genre City, the show was first pitched to The WB, where The WB putted it on friday night, in order to greenlit the show, The WB asked if the two creators can come up with a name, names were chosen, such as The J's, John & Jennifer & Jay, Whereville, and finally coming up with the name The Three.
The show premiered on February 11, 2000, when it first premiered, the show received a combination of mixed and positive reviews, with some critics calling it "Another attempt at the adult cartoon bandwagon", after low ratings, the show was cancelled in June 2000, later on in 2002, Adult Swim picked up the series for a second season for 13 episodes, the show later regained a cult following, following the premiere of the second season premiere, in 2004 however, Adult Swim cancelled the series, the final episode premiered on TBD, 2004 with the series finale "The Move-Out", the show continues to have a cult following to this day.
On June 23, 2020, it was announced that the show will be rebooted, this time taking place in the modern days, no other details have been released but it is rumored that the cast will reprise their roles.
Premise[]
Set in the fictional city of Whereville; New York, the show follows three 20-something vitriolic best friends: selfish and neurotic friend John Lastnamer (pronounced Lost-na-mar), punk and tomboyish friend Jennifer Schwartzhoff, and eccentric yet clueless friend Jay Bergh, together they work at a Blockbuster ripoff called Genre City, they also must work together to stop the absurd forces of evil.
